Philosophy
Performance art is an ideal medium in which to develop creative thinkers -students who can conceptualize, analyze, collaborate, and invent through the art of improv. I create a supportive environment so that students can take risks and reach out in an atmosphere of safety and creativity. There is no right or wrong, there is just discovery. The thrust of the class or workshop activity is to generate a thrill (an enthusiasm) in exhibiting one’s creative effort with commitment and energy.
When students have energy and commitment, it becomes apparent and they begin to discern the “how” of creativity. I use this creative process to bring storytelling and narrative to life. These activities will improve students’ self-confidence, concentration and communication skills. I use experiential based learning through large and small group exercises, games and performances. My instruction of the group is student-driven according to the level of experience and response of the group as they develop.
